CinemAsia Film Lab
This year, the CinemAsia Film Festival is organising a Film Lab to stimulate the production of Dutch Asian movies. Three young Dutch moviemakers with an Asian background will each get 1000 euro to make a short movie which will be screened and discussed at the festival.
In the fall of 2005, a call for entries was made for short movies with a theme of “Made in Holland”. From over forty entries, the three best projects were selected and subsequently filmed under supervision in the months prior to the festival. A jury selected the best three projects: Ping by Jimmy Tai, Her Patch of Sky by Mayura Subhedar and Verzameling by Susan Au.
The Film Lab shorts will open on Saturday April 1 in the “Made in Holland” program. The filmmakers and their crew will be present at the screening. Thursday, April 6, from 4 pm, the end results will be screened at the Binger Filmlab in Amsterdam. Afterwards, the moviemakers will discuss the making of the movies and the end results with a moderator, and answer questions from the viewers.
The CinemAsia Film Lab is sponsored by the Priscilla Pik-Wa Yeung Foundation and supported by the Binger Filmlab, providing film equipment and an editing studio, as well as the Nederlandse Film Academie, providing a producer for each project.
